Taming the Wild

The internet is the most wide reaching and all-pervading of man's inventions.  Interconnecting computers worldwide, the internet has the ability to reach each and every home and touch each and every life. It is used by almost everyone, irrespective of their age, sex or nationality.  Needless to say, the internet has opened up a lot of avenues for communication, expression, networking and much more. This blessing to mankind has made us more open, more visible...and generally more, "out there." It helps us share our thoughts and feelings. It helps us stay connected, stay updated. But this invention also comes with its own pros and cons.  The internet is the easiest and the cheapest mode of communication in today's world, no doubt; but it is also something that puts us a lot in "the public eye." So while it is true that this is the preferred mode of expression for a lot of people today, there are a few things that need to be kept in mind when usi

Start them young on the big picture...

Exams, no matter how big or small, are always made to be a big deal. Come exam time, we reduce children's TV time, we put on hold the weekend outing, we even put on hold taking them out for ice-creams or treats altogether.  "Let the exams get over first, we will have plenty of time for all these after that!"  is what we always think.  In fact, exams are such a major cause of stress and worry in many parents and children that we all actually look forward to the celebration after the exams! But do exams really have to be such a scary beast? Are they really so  important, that we rob our children of their daily playtime and TV time? Are exams something to just 'get done with' so that then we can actually enjoy and have fun? Why do we stress our children out so much when 'exam dates' are announced? And more importantly, why do we parents get so stressed ourselves!? There has to be an easier way, don't you think? Well, there is! It just tak

That's rain for you...

It's afternoon. Middle of the day. It is hot. Then it starts getting hotter. More than it is supposed to be at this time.  Then the breeze suddenly dies down. The chirping of the birds suddenly stops. There is now a pronounced silence.  Before you know it, dark ominous clouds gather in the sky and the bright sunlight is enveloped by moisture-laden, low flying, dark clouds. A drizzle begins. Soft beads of water begin to cover the earth. And then, its not a drizzle anymore. It's a full-on attack of huge water droplets that begin to fall with increasing intensity; only to stop when the earth is drenched in the downpour!  Yes, that's  rain for you!  Did you know that there is actually a term for people who love rains? Yes, they are known as  pluviophiles ! They are the people who enjoy rains, who find joy and peace in the rains.  Also, there is an actual word that describes the smell of rain on dry earth! This smell is known as  petr

The Example

Here's an example from A Butterfly; That on a rough, hard rock Happy can lie; Friendless and all alone On this unsweetened stone. Now let my bed be hard, No care take I; I'll make my joy like this Small Butterfly; Whose happy heart has power To make a stone a flower. - William Henry Davies

Love comes to those...

Love comes to those,  who still hope, although they have been disappointed;  To those, who still believe, although they've been betrayed; To those, who still need to love, although they've been hurt before; And to those,  who have the courage and faith to build trust again! Image courtesy: Pixabay

'Spirited Child?'.....Let's Take It In The Right Spirit!

This is a sponsored post for Kellogg's Chocos which has first been published on MyCity4Kids.com  Its been a month since school began. The honeymoon period is clearly over; and with it, has waned the novelty of the new school year. Initially, our kids were looking forward to schools reopening and a new routine taking over. New books were to be read, new uniforms to be tried on and most importantly, new friendships were to be forged…And now, with the month gone by swiftly, they are settling into this newness with a familiarity that is growing by the minute. We parents too, were looking forward to the beginning of a new school year. We were excited about getting to know new teachers, fellow parents; and of course, our little ones were a year older! Yayy! But now that we are close to our first PTMs, we are equally looking forward to it and dreading it at the same time. ‘What does the teacher think of my son's behaviour?’ ‘What does the teacher think of my daughter a
