Plan. Fail. Repeat.

I was told as little child that I should wake up with a smile on my face. Everyday. Because my parents believe, that how you wake up in the morning, determines how your day is going to be. And so, most days, I wake up with a positive attitude. Trying to trick the day into being good to me. But today was different. I have been on a sort of ‘think-mode’ for the past few days now, and sometime last night, I must have been contemplating the current state of my work. Because today morning, as I opened my eyes to a brand new day and a brand new month; the one thought in my head was – that I wasn’t doing enough. That I wasn’t utilising my time properly. Now, I am a firm believer that one should always dream big. And if one has built castles in the air as part of that dream, then one should also do all it takes, to put the foundation beneath them. And it was this thought, that I wasn’t working towards the foundation enough that had me distressed.    I mentioned thi...

Ever heard of Inapproriate Parenting?

"These children have parents yet feel orphaned" screamed a headline in the newspaper and I skipped a beat! When I read on, I found that the info in the article was not so much surprising as it was shocking! The article spoke about young children seeking psychiatric help from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (Nimhans). In majority of cases they evaluated, it was found that parents used inappropriate styles of parenting when it came to raising their children. And this was attributed to the recent trend across the country where working professionals found it difficult to provide effective parenting to their children.  With an increasing number of career oriented professionals in big cities choosing to work full-time, children are left at home almost all day, either alone or with maids in most cases. The decline in the number of joint-families has not helped the situation either; and thus, more and more children are being treated for psycholog...

The distracted smart race

"Mom, I finished my picture!!" your toddler screams,....but you have to send out that email you are working on, like RIGHT NOW!  Your friend calls you up for a long chat; and all the while, you are thinking of that last message you were about to post on Whatsapp where you were involved in a serious discussion on your group..... You are ready to go to bed; but there are just a few more notifications you need to see that you never got time to check during the day..... You are in a flight and the flight attendant warns you sternly about switching off your phone (maybe for the fifth time!); but you need to send that one last message before you take off and are inaccessible for the next few hours....... Sound familiar?
